Hemmings Find of the Day – 1955 Packard 400

Hemmings Find of the Day – 1955 Packard 400

Mock convertible 1955 Packard 400 for sale on Hemmings.com. From the seller’s description: The first owner purchased this car new from Packard of New Haven, CT. He owned it for quite a few years and sold it to a good friend of the third owner. By then, the car was a used up Packard and probably would have been put out to pasture. The second owner sat on the car for a few years when the third owner kept pressing to get it. The step daughter tells me that her step Dad was a self taught mechanic and car restorer…Read entire story

Four-Links – abandoned in America’s hippest ‘hood, Spartan done, 1927’s fastest truck, Herb Scott

It’s a sunny weekend in June, whattaya gonna do – sit inside and read? Okay, if you’ve got nothing going on in the garage, check out the roadside finds Feral Cars came across in the Highland Park area of Los Angeles. * Congrats to Cool McCool for finishing his Spartan camper. Looks good! * Just how many times did Cannonball Baker cross the country? GM’s Heritage Center has the story of his 1927 record run in a GMC truck hauling water from the Atlantic to the Pacific oceans. * The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix recently pointed to this story on Facebook about racer Herb Scott, a prominent southwestern…Read entire story

1966 Chevrolet Corvair homecoming – missed deadlines

1966 Chevrolet Corvair homecoming – missed deadlines

Prepositioning script and body trim with blue painter tape. It’s got to fit before it is attached. Photos by author. Originally, this was supposed to be an optimistic update of a project well along. But as things have worked out, I’m now fairly discouraged. Not yet depressed, and certainly not defeated, but the original timeline to get this car into the Forest Grove Concours on July 16 might not be possible. It’s just feeling as though time is running out two weeks too soon. Sometimes new trim pieces overlap, which requires some careful refitting. For my part, I’ve done pretty much everything that would be required…Read entire story

Interesting 4×4: 1964 Hanomag AL28

Interesting 4×4: 1964 Hanomag AL28

This 1964 Hanomag AL28 is an interesting 4×4 2.8 liter diesel-powered pick-up that looks like it may have been restored in the recent past. Most of these trucks were sold to state agencies, and we can’t imagine many survive in any condition, let alone as nice as this one looks to be. Many European trucks of this era bear more of a resemblance to their contemporary US counterparts than the COE style rigs that would come to dominate the segment, yet there’s still lots to compare and contrast here. Find it here on mobile.de in Berlin, Germany for 12…Read entire story

Hemmings Find of the Day – 1963 Ford Falcon

Hemmings Find of the Day – 1963 Ford Falcon

1963 Ford Falcon two-door sedan for sale. From the seller’s description: I have owned this Falcon for 18 years. When I bought it in June of 1999, it was already repainted the original white color and the original engine was replaced by a 1966 Ford 200C.I. original type. It has an automatic choke. The original was a 144 C.I. with a manual choke. The 3- speed manual on the column and rear axle and suspension are original to the car. Since I have it , I replaced the gas tank, any front end parts that needed to be changed. I put from front to rear, stainless steel brake lines and replaced two front rubber brake hoses and all wheel cylinders/master cylinder. I…Read entire story

Four-Links – Clair Patterson, papercraft, two-wheel-steer motorcycle, Golden Gate Packard

Four-Links – Clair Patterson, papercraft, two-wheel-steer motorcycle, Golden Gate Packard

I briefly considered scrapping the entire Four-Links format this week to focus entirely on Lucas Reilly’s longread on Clair Patterson, the chemist/geologist who for decades doggedly pursued the evidence – against stiff opposition and subterfuge from the automotive and petrochemical industries – that leaded gasoline was polluting the earth and that it was making us sick, stupid, and mean. Seriously, take the half hour or so to read the entire story and consider that without Patterson’s research we’d still be fueling with leaded gasoline. * In the end, however, I can’t call it a Four…Read entire story

Late Pre-GM 5-Speed: 42K-Mile 1994 Saab 900 Turbo Convertible

Late Pre-GM 5-Speed: 42K-Mile 1994 Saab 900 Turbo Convertible

This 1994 Saab 900 Turbo convertible is a very late production pre-GM Era redesign model with the desirable force-fed engine and 5-speed manual gearbox combo. It’s been with the seller’s family for 14 years now, and mileage is said to be just 42k. The car looks unusually nice inside and out, and the seller adds that it’s been garaged. Unsurprisingly, A/C isn’t working, but everything else reportedly is, presumably including the new top’s power folding mechanism. Find it here on Craigslist in Belgrade, Maine for $9,500. Special thanks to BaT reader J.C. for this submission. Production of the Mk…Read entire story
