Soaring through the Midwest in a Studebaker Hawk

Soaring through the Midwest in a Studebaker Hawk

Parked outside the Ypsilanti Automotive Heritage Museum. Story and photos by Dan Caswell. [Editor’s note: This story comes to us courtesy of Hemmings Motor News reader Dan Caswell. Thanks, Dan!] My wife, André told me I should write about my trip driving our 1961 Studebaker Hawk, from our home in Minot, North Dakota, to South Bend, Indiana, for the Studebaker Driver’s Club International Meet, May 3-6. From there, I planned to head to Auburn, Indiana, for the Antique Automobile Club of America/Classic Car Club of America shows and Auctions America sale, May 11-13. I told her the story would be too boring as it would just read: I put in gas and drove, put in more gas and drove more, etc…Read entire story

1966 Chevrolet Corvair homecoming – missed deadlines

1966 Chevrolet Corvair homecoming – missed deadlines

Prepositioning script and body trim with blue painter tape. It’s got to fit before it is attached. Photos by author. Originally, this was supposed to be an optimistic update of a project well along. But as things have worked out, I’m now fairly discouraged. Not yet depressed, and certainly not defeated, but the original timeline to get this car into the Forest Grove Concours on July 16 might not be possible. It’s just feeling as though time is running out two weeks too soon. Sometimes new trim pieces overlap, which requires some careful refitting. For my part, I’ve done pretty much everything that would be required…Read entire story

Hemmings Find of the Day – 1963 Ford Falcon

1963 Ford Falcon two-door sedan for sale. From the seller’s description: I have owned this Falcon for 18 years. When I bought it in June of 1999, it was already repainted the original white color and the original engine was replaced by a 1966 Ford 200C.I. original type. It has an automatic choke. The original was a 144 C.I. with a manual choke. The 3- speed manual on the column and rear axle and suspension are original to the car. Since I have it , I replaced the gas tank, any front end parts that needed to be changed. I put from front to rear, stainless steel brake lines and replaced two front rubber brake hoses and all wheel cylinders/master cylinder. I…Read entire story

Hemmings Find of the Day – 1966 Oldsmobile 98 convertible

1966 Oldsmobile 98 convertible for sale. From the seller’s description: This is a fairly rare car to find these days and perfect for this year’s car show season…. The brakes have all just been replaced, heads and carburetor rebuilt. I bought it from an estate where it sat in an air-conditioned garage for the last 10 years – it floats like a cloud! AM/FM stereo, dual antennas, …Read entire story
