Rumours of a hot Volkswagen up! have been brewing ever since a GT up! concept showed up during the launch of the original way back in 2011. But Wolfsburg has finally put its foot down by introducing the Volkswagen up! GTI concept at the GTI Meet at Wörthersee this year, with a production version confirmed for early next year. Meant to harken back to the original Golf GTI, the up! An honest-to-god six-speed manual transmission sends all…Read entire story

VW Group goes large with three electric crossover concepts

VW Group goes large with three electric crossover concepts

by Lem Bingley What a difference a decade makes. 10 years ago, electric cars existed on the fringes of the motoring cosmos, typified by the small, fragile and frightening Reva G-Wiz. Indeed it was exactly a decade ago, in April 2007, that Top Gear got hold of a G-Wiz and flung it at a crash test barrier at 40mph. The results made it plain that G-Wiz occupants sat in the middle of a bumper-to-bumper crumple zone. Read more »Read entire story

Watch this Volkswagen Beetle Do some Serious Barrel Rolls

Watch this Volkswagen Beetle Do some Serious Barrel Rolls

Thankfully, the driver wasn’t seriously injured. Drag Racing can be very dangerous. With so much power, incredible acceleration, and triple-digit speeds, the slightest mistake can yield disastrous results. The famed Volkswagen ‘Bugzilla’ had itself a fiery and dangerous crash at the ‘Lights Out 8’ drag racing event. Driven by Ron Clark, the Volkswagen Beetle aka ‘Bugzilla’ was putting down some serious power and time on the drag strip. After crossing the finish line at this race, the car lost control and slammed into the concrete barrier, shooting sparks and going into a barrel roll before igniting into flames. Thankfully, Clark was able to get out of the car …Read entire story

Volkswagen Atlas accessorises, Australian launch “increasingly unlikely”

This weekend’s Chicago motor show will play host to an accessorised Weekend edition of the new Volkswagen Atlas, adding unique wheels, a clever new expanding roof pod and other holidaying goodies. But, kitted up or not, the new SUV’s Australian potential is looking slim. Volkswagen Group Australia has previously signalled its interest in the Atlas, and in 2014 a senior spokesperson told CarAdvice that the new model – previewed at the time by the CrossBlue concept – that the company was “very keen” on securing a local launch. Today, however, Volkswagen Australia communications manager Paul Pottinger said the Atlas was now looking to be an “increasingly unlikely” prospect. As with the American version of the Passat, introduced in 2011, the Atlas does not …Read entire story

GTI Clubsport S Tuned To 480 Horepower

The VW Golf GTI Clubsport S currently holds the lap record at the Nurburgring for a FWD car so one would think the 305 horses it comes with is enough. B&B Automobiltechnik are claiming to have pumped up the 2-0-litre turbocharged engine to an insane 480 horsepower. Mods also include a high-capacity fuel pump and performance injectors to take advantage of the extra air coming into the engine. Taking inspiration from its motorsport programs, B&B installed exhaust with a sports catalytic converter reduces back pressure. A new report from AutoCar indicates that Volkswagen is on the verge of implementing a midcycle refresh of the current seventh generation Golf. Because of the recent diesel emission scandal, dubbed Dieselgate, many of us are wondering what Volkswagen has in store for US-bound Golfs. Our bets for any revised diesel models are completely off in our books. What’s going to change?
